WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR VISIT

Expectations will be high in the build-up to your visit to your sponsored child. What your actual day is like will depend on the country you are visiting, but it should go something like this:

First thing in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel by World Vision staff and driven to the Area Development Programme office for an overview of what sponsorship and your support has helped World Vision achieve. Next, you will travel to the community to see how these achievements are benefitting the community.

You may visit a school or a health centre, and meet some of the local doctors, nurses, teachers or farmers who are working hard to make their community a better place for children and their families to live in.

Then comes the moment you have been waiting for. You will meet your sponsored child and their family either in the World Vision office or in their home. You will enjoy a shared meal together and have a real opportunity to get to know each other as you perhaps play some games and exchange presents. After this special experience, our staff will take you back to your hotel – with memories that you will cherish forever.

IT COULD BE YOU

Visiting your sponsored child and their family is an experience you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

After exchanging letters from afar, it’s a chance to finally get up close and personal and see the realities of their day-to-day lives. Most importantly, your visit will be a huge event in the life of your sponsored child. It’s something that they – just like you – will cherish and remember forever.

This is what Clare said about visiting Shirati, her sponsored child:

“Seeing Shirati toddling over, it was hard not to burst into tears, I didn’t expect it to affect me so much but she was so beautiful and happy to see us and, well… real. I couldn’t help but fall in love with her there and then.”

Shemi, Rahim and their two young boys Adam and Kamran visited Uganda. They meet 14 year-old Rachael, the girl they sponsor and share in some fun activities with the children in the community. Take a look at some pictures from their visit.
