Aid promise set to become law

A commitment to spend 0.7 per cent of Britain's gross national income on livesaving overseas aid looks set to become law, following a historic vote today. upload.jpg

The proposed law was passed by 146 MPs and will now move to the House of Lords and on its way to come into force as law.

World Vision Chief Executive Justin Byworth said:

“Today we've set an example to other countries that aid matters and Britain has kept its promise to the poor.

“Enshrining the 0.7% aid target in law will allow discussion to move beyond how much we're spending, to how we spend it.”

World Vision UK is expressing gratitude to the MPs who showed their support and voted in today's parliamentary session.

The children's charity, which works in nearly 100 countries, has long campaigned for the legislation as a vital step forward and will continue to monitor its progress.
