World Vision teams in China are distributing relief items to areas battered by continuous rainstorms and severe flooding, as more than 200 rivers in the country reach critical levels.

Around 1,190 counties in 26 provinces have been affected by the disaster. 186 people have already died and 45 more are reported missing, with almost 33million people affected in total and one-and-a-half million relocated.

Victor Kan, National Director of World Vision China, said: “This is a really difficult time for children and their families impacted by the disaster. We will provide food, quilts and shelter during this emergency phase to meet the urgent needs of the survivors.”

World Vision has distributed 100 hygiene kits, 100 Child-Friendly Kits, 300 family kits, and 477 quilts in Hunan Province. Further assessments are due to take place in the hardest hit provinces.

The prolonged storms have continued to affect the country since May, with torrential rain across swathes of the mainland exacerbating the situation in the past few days. The weather is forecast to continue for the next 10 days.
