Queen’s Speech 2013: World Vision UK’s reaction

World Vision UK’s reaction to the 2013 Queen’s Speech which has just been delivered, setting out the UK Government’s legislative plans for the next year.

Justin Byworth, Chief Executive of World Vision UK, said: “Our government's done the hard bit by showing leadership and delivering a budget that met the promise of 0.7 per cent in life-saving aid.

“So it’s a real concern that this has been dropped from the Queen’s speech - and won’t now be enshrined in law.

“The cross-party consensus in support of aid goes beyond politics and shows the UK's leading the way in fighting poverty worldwide. Anything that undermines this is a threat to the lives of millions of children facing hardship that few of us could imagine.”
