This afternoon, the 0.7% International Development Aid Bill has received Royal Assent to become law. This Private Member’s Bill, introduced by Michael Moore in September 2014, will now enshrine Britain’s commitment to spend 0.7% of its gross national income (GNI) on aid every year. upload.jpgTim Pilkington, World Vision UK’s Interim Chief Executive said:

"Today is truly a historic day - one that is 45 years in the making. The 0.7% GNI target on development aid was first pledged in 1970 at the United Nations, and we can be proud that the UK is the first G7 country to fulfil this promise.

UK aid has made a measurable difference in millions of children’s lives around the world, especially children living in the world’s toughest places.

Right now, British aid is helping World Vision to deliver food, water and sanitation, education, shelter and protection to the thousands of children affected by the cyclone in Vanuatu.

Britain has kept its promise to the world’s poorest children – now and in years to come.”
