World Vision staff distribute aid by canoe to flood victims in Thailand

Unusually heavy rains caused by low depression and the strong northeast monsoon, have left much of southern Thailand submerged under water forcing aid works to paddle their way to the affected communities.

At least 12 provinces and over 950,000 people have been affected. Twenty-one people have died, and transport links are severely affected.

World Vision declared a Category 2, National Office Response following the disaster. World Vision Foundation of Thailand’s Deputy National Director and Acting Operations Director, Sarawut Ratchasrimuang, said: “This area is not known for flash flooding and residents were caught unaware. We are doing all we can to help children in the area.”

Our staff have been on the ground since 8 January, distributing drinking water, survival kits and dry clothes. We have set up a Child-Friendly Space and a soup kitchen that aims to provide over 600 food packs daily.
