Only lasting ceasefire will end carnage in Ghouta, warns World Vision
Aid agency World Vision is backing calls for an immediate ceasefire to halt escalating violence in Eastern Ghouta, Syria.
Resolution 2401, adopted by the UN Security Council just days ago, demands a 30-day cessation in fighting to allow vital aid deliveries to reach the critically sick and injured. The resolution, now binding by international law, also demands medical evacuations.
The sustained attacks in Ghouta come weeks before Syria enters its eighth year of civil war.
The residents of Ghouta are trapped in a terrifying hell on earth, with nowhere to run. Only a lasting ceasefire can end the carnage, allowing water, food and medical supplies, and to evacuate the injured.
