Our Work

World Vision is the world’s largest international children’s charity. Every day we bring real hope to millions of children in the world’s hardest places as a sign of God’s unconditional love.

Our vision is to help the world’s most vulnerable children and give them the chance to live life in all its fullness.

In partnership with our institutional grant donors and individual philanthropists, we’re working towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

OUR AIMS

Zero hunger

  • End hunger. Achieve food security and better nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture for over a million people.
  • Together we’ll help families to have a secure and nutritious source of food all year round through improved and sustainable farming techniques.

Health

  • Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for 450,000 people each year.
  • Together we’ll help children to live healthier lives with access to essential medical care and qualified professionals when needed.

Quality education

  • Ensure inclusive and quality education and promote life-long learning opportunities for 49,000 girls.
  • Together we’ll make sure education is available for every child to reach their full potential and live life in all its fullness.

Decent work and economic growth

  • Promote local, inclusive and sustainable job opportunities with secure income generation for 5,600 people.
  • Together we’ll make sure families can have a long-term, stable livelihood so they can provide for their children.

For this to become a reality, we work alongside communities in close to 100 countries to bring about lasting change to the world’s most vulnerable children through emergency responses, child sponsorship, Raw Hope, Essentials, Must Have Gifts, advocacy and long-term community development.

We’re looking for individuals and businesses to partner with us to transform the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children. If you would like to get involved by fundraising, giving, attending or hosting an event, please contact us now or get in touch with one of our Philanthropy Executives to discuss our work further.

A STRATEGY TO END CHILD POVERTY

In 2017, we launched a new strategy, focussed on changing the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children. The path to achieving it, includes:

  1. Tackling the root causes of poverty We form long-lasting, trusted partnerships with communities , so we can better understand and then address the issues they face. We tailor our responses to each community’s specific needs with a focus on children.

  2. Focusing on the most vulnerable children We prioritise the most vulnerable children living in the poorest and most fragile countries, in the hardest to reach places.

  3. Investing in communities We believe that stronger communities lead to better lives for children. By partnering with governments, local groups, the private sector and other organisations, we collaborate to have greater impact, giving children the best chances in life, while working towards sustainability for generations to come.

  4. Using an integrated approach Our approach to ending child poverty includes long-term development programmes, short-term emergency response and continually influencing decision-makers through our advocacy activities.

  5. Focusing on four key sectors To make change that endures, our work focuses on the key areas of: education, health, access to nutritious food and families’ ability to financially provide for their children.

FUNDING: GRANT MATCH

World Vision UK receives its funding from individuals and institutional donors*. Some institutional donors ask us to raise a bit extra to show commitment to the project, or to cover additional related costs, especially where we are working in fragile regions. This is when we need your help.

With your generous support, we can unlock these funds making your donations go even further. This in turn means we can help even more children.

*This includes government donors, for example, the Department for International Development (DfID)

Our Impact

In 2016, UK donors transformed the lives of 4.4 million children across 39 countries
